Welcome to Year 5!
Mrs Boardley is the Class Teacher, with Mrs Himsworth as our Teaching Assistant. In Year 5 we study the Victorians during the autumn term, the Romans in the spring term and the Tudors in the summer term. We link much of our English work to our topic, which really engages the children. We go out on educational visits through the year, with the aim of expanding our topical studies.
Throughout Year 5 we participate in the Wider Opportunities Music Scheme and the children benefit from a year’s free musical instrument tuition. These sessions take place each Friday.
Year 5 are given weekly topic based homework, alongside maths tasks. They also have weekly spellings to practice, as well as completing regular reading at home. Homework is to be handed in each Wednesday. Spelling tests take place each Friday.
It is essential that your children read at home at least 5 times per week, as this will support them with the work that we do in school, enable them to make good progress and help them to develop a lifelong love for reading. Children should bring their reading books and reading records into school everyday in their bags. Please sign in your child’s reading record and write a short comment about their reading after they have read.
PE days are Monday and Tuesday, please ensure that children always have their full kits (school PE T-Shirt, navy shorts and trainers) in school.
Many thanks for your support,
Mrs Boardley and Mrs Himsworth
