Welcome to Year 2!
A warm welcome to Year 2 from Mrs Rudd (Class Teacher) and Mrs Armitage (Teaching Assistant). We have lots of fun activities and topics planned for this year and I know that the children will really enjoy being in Year 2. Below is some information about the routines in Year 2. Good communication between home and school is essential so please feel free to ask any questions or raise any concerns you may have about your child.
In Year 2, your child will be expected to read for at least five minutes every evening. Please sign your child’s reading record and write a comment about their reading, after you have heard them read. It really is essential that you do read with your child as it will really help them make good progress and develop a life long love of reading.
The children will be heard read individually at least twice a week or they will be heard read during group guided reading sessions. We will aim to change the reading books on a Thursday or a Friday. However, if your child needs their book changing before this, then please let me know,or write a note in their reading record.
Maths and English Homework will be given out on a Monday and needs to be handed in on a Friday. If your child is unable to complete their homework for some reason, then please send in a note to let me know. Homework must be completed in pencil and any pictures need to be coloured in using coloured pencils or crayons.
Spellings will be handed out on Fridays and your child will be tested on the following Friday. Please can you ensure that your child practises these spellings as much as possible at home. The Year 1/2 Key words will also be sent home for you to practise with your child.
PE lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. Children need to wear a full school PE kit for the sessions. The PE kit needs to be placed in a drawstring bag and can be left in school throughout the week.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Rudd and Mrs Armitage
