Welcome to Year 1!
A very warm welcome to Year 1’s page! Our Class Teacher is Mrs Robinson and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Armitage. We are also supported during the week by many other volunteer helpers. Year 1 work very hard and always enjoy learning about a range of new topics.
At the end of Year 1 children will complete the Phonics Screening Check. We have a 20 minute Phonics lesson every day to help us prepare for this throughout the year but it is very important that children also continue to learn their sounds at home. In September, Year 1 parents were given an information pack and resources to help with this practise. If you require any further information or resources please do not hesitate to ask.
We appreciate your support in helping to further your child’s learning. It is essential that they practise their reading at home 5 times a week. Reading books and records must be brought in to school every day.
Year 1 are also given weekly spellings on a Friday. Please help them to learn their list as they include high-frequency words, which children will be expected to be confident with by the time they reach Year 2.
Our P.E. days are Monday and Friday. Full P.E. kits must be in school on these days and if your child has pierced ears, please make sure they do not wear earrings on P.E. days.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child or their progress, please feel free to speak to your Class Teacher who will be happy to help.
Thank you for your support.
