Welcome to Reception!
Mrs Cochrane and Mrs Thorne-Marsh are the teachers in Reception. We are supported by Ms Howard and Mrs Hollingworth and many wonderful volunteers. Please do mention to us if you would like to come in to help – help is always greatly received! In our reception class we have lots of fun, we love to be outdoors, to sing, explore and investigate. We share lots of books together: reading and stories are a huge part of our learning.
Children participate in a range of formal and play based learning each day. We follow the Development matters curriculum and assess children against this regularly. Here is the link to the curriculum if you wish to take a look – https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/early-years-foundation-stage-framework–2
Please listen to your child read at least four times per week and complete homework tasks set; these are very important in supporting and consolidating children’s learning. Children need their reading book and reading record in school every day and our allocated PE slot is on Wednesdays.
Parents are key to their child’s development and progress. Good communication between home and school is essential and please do feel free to ask any questions or raise any concerns you may have about your child.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

Exciting news – so far we have 7 cheeky fluffy chicks that have hatched in the classroom. The children have loved stroking them, naming them and thinking about what they need. The chicks explored our classroom this afternoon and were very inquisitive! All of the children are fascinated with the project!
